Guide
Google Business Profile checklist.
When someone nearby searches for what you do, Google shows a map with a few businesses before any website. Your Google Business Profile decides whether you are one of them. Here is the checklist we use.
Set it up right
- 1. Use your real business name, exactly as it appears on your sign, cards and website.
- 2. Pick the most specific main category. This matters more than almost anything else.
- 3. No storefront? Choose “no location customers can visit” and add the areas you serve. Your address stays hidden.
- 4. Add your phone number and website. Use the same ones everywhere online.
- 5. Set accurate hours, including holidays.
Fill it out completely
- 6. List every service you offer, in plain words customers would search.
- 7. Write a description that says what you do, who you serve and where.
- 8. Add real photos of your work, your team and your space. Add new ones regularly.
Keep it active
- 9. Ask every happy customer for a review, and reply to every review.
- 10. Post an update every week: a finished job, an offer or an answer to a common question.
Verification
Google has to verify you before your profile shows. Many businesses are asked for a short video showing their location or service area, their business name on something printed, and proof they run the business. Plan it before you hit record, and do it in one continuous take.
